The Domaine Burguet is a bit special in my heart as it’s like ‘family’. Indeed, Alain Burguet (founder of the Domaine) is my dad’s cousin. They grew up together in Gevrey Chambertin (as my dad would say “Gevrey Chambertin is the cradle of civilisation”, very modestly as you can see😂). Alain Burguet has a small domaine of 9.5 hectares which he built up by himself. When he started in the 70’s, he was really ahead of all the wine makers in Burgundy as he adopted the ‘bidynamie’ technics. His pears, at that time, were making fun of him as they were all using pesticides. Alain is known to make fabulous Gevrey Chambertin appellations. Since 10 years, his 2 sons, Jean Luc and Eric, are heading the domaine while Alain is playing golf but still with an eye on what they are making😉.

The Burguets are usually the last domaines to harvest in Gevrey Chambertin to seek the full maturity of grapes in order to have fuller wines with more finesse and delicate tannins. Grapes are hand harvested and 100% de-stemmed. Jean Luc and Eric prefer a 'hands off' approach to vinification and therefore they don't thermo regulate their tanks. Wines are transferred to traditional oak barrels (limiting the amount of new oak barrels. No fining or filtration to keep the wines are 'natural' as possible.
